Rattray Beaver Run is dam tough!

Blairgowrie and District Rotary all set to host popular fundraising event this weekend

Preparations for the second Rattray Beaver Run - which takes place this Sunday, September 20th - are well under way, with organisers looking forward to another good turnout from runners across the region.

More than 120 people have signed up to tackle the half-marathon and 10k routes in the heart of east Perthshire’s beaver countryside, which, although having a reputation for being ‘dam tough’, reward participants with some very scenic views and a real sense of achievement.

Previously known as the Rattray-Blair Half Marathon, the revamped Rattray Beaver Run is hosted by volunteers with Blairgowrie and District Rotary who stepped in last year to secure the future of the popular event.

The fundraising challenge has raised thousands of pounds for local and national charities over the years.

This year, 50 per cent of proceeds will go to Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS) with the remaining 50 per cent shared between five local groups working tirelessly to improve mental health and wellbeing - Mantalk, Andy’s Man Club, The Grief Hub, Happy To Chat Happy To Listen, and Women’s Walk and Talk.

Rotarian Janine Seymour is looking forward to the event.

She said: “We’re hugely grateful to sponsors Kilmac, to the Blairgowrie Runners and Blairgowrie and Rattray Development Trust for their support helping us to deliver the event, and to all the runners who take part and make the most of an opportunity to both challenge themselves and raise money for some very worthwhile causes at the same time.

“Thanks also to Tayside Contracts Community Fund for making all of our distance markers and route signs this year.

“The event’s reputation for being ‘dam’ tough is justified, but those who take part are rewarded with one of the most scenic routes on the half-marathon and 10km circuit and some breath-taking views.

“All finishers receive a bespoke medal and a high-quality buff, and a post-race buffet that lives up to the legendary spreads of previous years.

“We would encourage as many people as possible to come along and cheer on all the runners in their endeavours!”

Registration for the event will open at 8am at the Community Connect Centre beside Rattray Primary School. No entries will be accepted on the day. All entrants must register at least 15 minutes before the event starts to allow time to get to the start line. The half marathon will start at 9.15am and the 10k will start at 10am.

The routes finish on Rattray Common behind Rattray Primary School with the first finishers expected back from around 11am. There will be a prize-giving presentation at around 12.15pm.
