Last chance to nominate Blairgowrie and Rattray local heroes
Release Date: Monday 25 May 2026
There are just a few days left to nominate your local heroes for the 2025-26 Blairgowrie and Rattray Citizen of the Year, Young Person of the Year and Community Group of the Year awards.
The deadline for putting people forward for the accolades, which are organised by volunteers from Blairgowrie and Rattray Community Council (BRCC), is this Sunday, May 31 at 5.30pm
The Citizen of the Year will receive the prestigious Blairgowrie Advertiser cup engraved with their name, and the Young Person of the Year will also be presented with an engraved cup. The Community Group of the Year receives a stunning stone trophy created by local sculptor David Wilson.
The trophies are currently nearing the end of a tour of shops, businesses and organisations in the town as part of efforts to encourage people to nominate those they feel deserve recognition for their efforts on behalf of others in the community.
BRCC chair, David Cuthill, urged people to nominate deserving individuals for the awards.
He said: “Do you know someone who has made or is making significant contributions to our community or to individuals and groups within it? Maybe you know someone who has gone the extra mile to make a positive difference in our town?
“If so, now is your chance to recognise that contribution by nominating them for the Citizen of the Year or Young Person of the Year.
“There are so many worthy people and community groups and organisations in the town who do so much to make a positive difference to the lives of people here in Blairgowrie and Rattray and it is important for us as a community to recognise their efforts.
“All our previous winners have been very deserving recipients of the awards and we are hoping for as many nominations as possible again this year.”
The Citizen of the Year is open to anyone who lives in the BRCC catchment area and the Young Person of the Year award is open to those under 21 years old who live in the area.
The Community Group of the Year award is for groups and organisations working primarily in the BRCC area.
Nomination forms are available from Blairgowrie Library on Leslie Street, Mitchell’s Newsagent and the BaRI Building on Blairgowrie High Street and a number of other local businesses.
The forms are also available online at the BRCC website here: https://www.brcommunitycouncil.org.uk/brcc/coty or by emailing BRCC on [email protected].
Nominations should contain the name and address of both the nominee and person submitting the nomination, what the person is being nominated for and why they deserve the award, and whether it is for one event or for regular contributions to the community over the past 12 months.
Completed nomination forms should be delivered to the BaRI Building for the attention of BRCC or emailed to [email protected]
The nominations are then reviewed by a panel of community councillors and last year's winners, with the winners expected to be announced later this summer.
